2012 Pacific Asia Junior Men

The Australian National Junior mens team recently returned from competing at the 2012 Pacific Asia Junior Curling Championships in Jeonju, South Korea.

The team of Angus Young (skip), Dean Hewitt (third), Max Thomas (second) Sam Williams (lead) and Grant Hamsey (alternate) competed against the other Pacific Asia countries, China, Korea, Japan and New Zealand.

For Dean, it was his first time to represent his country.

While the boys were not able to secure a win, they had some very competitive matches against the top teams. They had leads against China and Korea until the late ends.

Unfortunately a bug hit the team hard after the first game, and along with one other injury, only 3 of the 8 games were played with the original team lineup. In fact 3 of the games had to be played with 3 players, and one game was forfeited at the 5th end break as the bug hit again.

However, the boys were courageous against the odds and despite the challenges played unbelievably well - the scorelines were not indicative of how close the matches were.
